First, a good old-fashioned adventure - kids on holiday over the summer, an old map and lost treasure, bad guys, chases, escapes, sea and caves...

...village of Trewissick, which is based on the very real village of Mevagissey, it's the marvellous 'Over Sea, Under Stone' by Susan Cooper - the first of the five novels in the 'Dark is Rising' sequence. I personally rate the second book in the sequence as among my top 5...

...books ever.

Secondly, a novel of love, of loss and of having to compete with a ghost. Of course, it's Daphne Du Maurier's classic 'Rebecca' - about a young woman who marries a rich widower, and is constantly compared to the first Mrs de Winter by the sinister housekeeper...
